Denner/Shermann Masters of Evil Review 8.7/10 'Diabolically SOLID'

What made Mercyful Fate one of the most influential and revered metal bands of all time?

Answer-Off the beaten path complex musical passages, dark occult lyrics, vocal gymnastics with an original tone, neo-classical dual guitar attack and the whole band playing every note and singing every word like they mean it!

This is exactly what you getting Denner/Shermann's new album 'Masters of Evil' on Metal Blade Records.

Denner/Shermann, Sean Peck and the rest of the band have created a diabolical solid release that is menacing, sinister and has lots of new surprises.

The big question, does Sean Peck fit in, after all he's got massive shoes to fill a la King Diamond. Answer he does a Brilliant job vocally, and delivers the goods in a  Three/Four octave range with aggression and fervor. Peck Deliver a Priest meets, Ozzy meets King Diamond delivery. Going from the screaming Halford falsettos on Son of Saten, to the whining Ozzy mids range on the Wolf Feeds at Night.  My only sour point, in regards to the vocals is  I would  liked to have heard a little more lower chest register vocal lines throughout the album, just to add a little more dynamics to the song.  Cause after 5-6 tracks of vocal screaming highs, it would have been nice to have a little break with a lower deeper vocal performance. But aside from that one point, BRAVO to PECK !

As for the guitar work, very impressive from the first track to the last Denner/Shermann are legends and they brought their 'A' game on this album in terms of originality and complexity. Same can be said for the drums and bass

The songwriting does not follow the verse chorus verse traditional patterns, the songs take weird turns, change tempos and keys flawlessly.

As for the production, I would say it's average.  The overall sound is  more bright and not as dark as  Abigail and Don't break the oath.

While their first single Angel's Blood sounds like a continuation off their Satan's tomb E.P. the rest of the tracks such as, Son of Satan, The Wolf feeds at night, Pentagram and the Cross and Masters of Evil,  sound like an evolution of the band's songwriting with strokes of classic Mercyful Fate.
